Two Projects Finished This Week!

I've had a very productive week!  This donation quilt had a deadline--it had to be done by today so it could be delivered to the auxiliary at the nursing home where my MIL lived for 4.5 years before she passed away earlier this month.  They are assembling their baskets for the fundraiser raffle this week so they can start selling tickets.  I hope that whoever wins the quilt that I made uses it and enjoys it.  I had to buy the border and backing fabrics.  It was quilted with my walking foot on my DSM.  The binding is the same fabric as the outer border.

My second finish of the week was my farm cross stitch on perforated paper. I got all of the beading done and added the sunflower button.  I will buy a frame shortly and get this out on display. The perforated paper was easy to stitch on...the beads were a bit fiddly but I like the way they look on the finished project.

My improv round robin quilt got some attention this week too.  I finished quilting the pieced border and started quilting the blue border.  I am using a sashiko needle and  pearl cotton in the blue border.  The stitches are larger -- the sashiko class I took last week inspired me.  This project is moving closer to the finish line.

We have been having beautiful Fall weather and I've been enjoying lots of walks outside with friends and family.  Yes---another squirrel photo!

Fungi on a log.

A family walk in the woods

This is one of my SIL and BIL's dogs...he also loves a walk in the woods.

Lots of mushrooms in the woods too.

My daughter had to get up really early one morning this week for a breakfast meeting at work.  Finn was not a fan of getting up so early and made the most of having the bed to himself.

I volunteer at our local hospice once a week. The views out the window were gorgeous this week.

I will link up with Kathy for Slow Sunday Stitching and with Frederique as well.  I will be working on my fall cross stitch this weekend.  Happy Halloween!

  4. Your donation quilt has a cozy fall vibe, Gail! I bet the person who gets it will love it. Your sunflower and windmill piece turned out beautifully, too. I've never done any beading, but it's fun to see what it looks like to have them added to this one. Looks like a beautiful walk in the woods for you and the family this week!

  5. Of course your beautifull quilt will be loved, it looks cozy and warm. I love your quilting grid, close to the seams but not in-the-ditch. The beads are a pretty embellishment for the farm cross stitch, I love the 3D effect on the sunflowers. Lovely autumn photos. Thank you for sharing and linking up.

friends and family foot photos are the best - add in crunchy leaves and you've got a real treasure...

  7. So sorry for your loss this year and good on you for continuing to help the care facility in its mission to help others. I am sure whoever wins the quilt will curl up right in it as it looks like just what you'd want to have for this season! Okay, love the beaded accents on the perforated paper piece! I haven't tried stitching on that surface yet so seeing yours really tempts me to try it.

  8. That donation quilt is very pretty. I like how you quilted it. I like perforated paper scene. I also find that the beads can get somewhat fiddly. Finn looks quite comfortable.

  10. perfect photo of the squirrel. Sorry to hear of your mother in laws passing that is always a sad time for family. we had a hospice facility at one time locally and just as I thought of volunteering they had to close as something got messed up with funding and they couldn't stay open and it looked really nice to - the kind of place you would want to be if you couldn't stay home any longer for care.

  12. Your donation quilt is so pretty, Gail. I am so sorry to hear about your MIL. Your stitch is so pretty. I have never used perforated paper before nor beaded a piece. Maybe I will give it a try sometime. The squirrel is the cutest! I loved seeing the fall photos. Have a good week. Hugs.

  13. I'm sure someone would love to receive your wonderful quilt. You have shared the most gorgeous fall pictures. We aren't having much of a colorful fall. We've been in a drought for most of the summer and then rain steadily for a month. Then no rain for over 18 days. Weird weather. Your counted cross stitch piece is wonderful. Loved the sunflower button and the beads. They really make the picture shine. Great job.
