My friend, Ann, is celebrating a special birthday this week so I made her an open wide zippered pouch using this pattern from Noodlehead. Since February is green month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, this project fit right in! The lining is white with green polka dots. Ann is an avid gardener so she loved the fabric I chose.
I rummaged through my green scrap bin and cut up lots of 2.5" squares and HST's for my 3 rainbow scrap challenge projects for 2026. I made 6 checkerboard nine patches. I have not cut out the white background for the HST block and the shoo fly blocks. That will be on deck for this coming week. We are supposed to be using darker shades of green but I have very little dark green in my stash. I will see what I have when I am done sewing up the blocks using these greens.
The Funky Rooster got lots of attention this week. I am well on my way to finishing this side of the rooster. It will be fun to put it together into a 3D object when I am done with the stitching.
My husband and I belong to the local hiking club and try to go on their weekly hikes. It was cold but sunny with blue skies. The snow was powdery under our feet. It was a very enjoyable hike!
The trail goes along a creek and we could see lots of animal tracks on the snow covered ice. They were mostly deer prints.
Meanwhile, we had a backyard visit from this very fluffy squirrel this week. He was sitting on our fence.
Finn likes to lie in this chair and watch the squirrels in the backyard at my daughter's place. He never barks at them, unlike many dogs.
I started this blog in 2008 as a way to keep track of and document my projects. I have come to know many lovely people through my blog, but I have never met most of them in person. I just wanted all of you to know that I appreciate your support and comments on my blog. Maybe someday, I will get to see you in person and we can enjoy a cup of tea and some in person stitching together... In the meantime, another friend who I have never met in person sent me this one day this past week and I wanted to share it with you.
I began my blog in 2009 for the same reason. It replaced my hand written project journal. And I feel the same way as you - having connections with so many lovely people via the blog.
ReplyDelete'My Friends on line' is so nice and really sums up how many of us feel about the stitching/blog community and it's great to be part of it! It's very satisfying when you get to stitching the rooster and chickens together. Your walk in the snow looked lovely. Apparently the UK is getting snow next week. It rarely happens in the south of England (but you never know). Finn is good not barking at the squirrels. We have one that taunts Lola from the top of the fence - it drives her crazy! ReplyDeleteWhat a nice sentiment and I began my blog too as way to document my projects! That rooster is sure bright! I look forward to seeing more of him in a future post. Good for you to make such progress with your green!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the link to the open wide zipper bag. Looks like an excellent set of instructions. Just might have to try it myself. Your rendition is bound to be a hit. Yes, we make many friends through blogging.
ReplyDeletelike you, many blog friends and I think I have only ever met one of them and that ended up while traveling one year - she knew about where I would be from a post I did and kept her eye out for me - spotted me on a mountain overlook in Colorado of all places - she and her husband were traveling in the same area at exact same time LOL - she yelled Karen is that you - I turned to see who had called my name and there was another gray haired lady lol - we chatted for awhile got a photo together and still communicate now years later.
ReplyDeleteYour Open-Wide pouch is a beauty! They do make great gifts. I love your green and white 9 patches, too - they make me think Spring! looks like a beautiful hike, even if it was cold. Thanks for sharing that lovely poem - I feel the same way about all of my blogging friends. It would definitely be fun to meet for a cup of tea one day!
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely words about online friends, we can all relate to that. I remember receiving so many kind wishes and thoughts from online friends when my darling Robin passed away. They were most appreciated at that time, an outpouring of love and affection from (mostly) people I had not met. And I still get the occasional thoughtful message as I navigate my way through widowhood.
ReplyDeleteYour green pouch and 9-patches are beautiful, very spring-like ;) The 3D Rooster is going to be fun! Yes, I love my blogging friends too, and it would be fun to share some in person stitching and cup of tea together! Thank you for sharing your projects and faithfully be part of my link party, hugs.
