What do these quilts have in common???

Just to prove that I have actually been doing a bit of sewing, here is a pile of HST's for the next step in the Stars for My Friends mystery. They are now pressed and ready for the next part of the process. I can hardly wait to show pictures of this flannel quilt!  It is going to be so cozy and warm!

My friend, Karen, and I went to the Piecemaker's quilt show in St. Mary's on Saturday. There were lots of quilts on display and at least 10 vendors offering many opportunities for us to part company with our money. (We each bought a few fat quarters, and I bought a 24" quilt hanger--that's it!) When I got home, I looked at all the pictures that I had taken of the quilts that I really liked...
Nothing like a Blue and Neutral quilt...

This is a close up of a quilt I might like to try one day...

I wonder if there were any spiders caught in these webs???

This quilt was made from many different homespuns--the colours are a bit washed out in this photo.

WOW! I did not stop to count the number of pieces in this postage stamp quilt with the appliqued border.   Here is a closeup:

The log cabin quilt below was in the wall hanging category and it got my vote for viewer's choice in this category!

Here is a close up of the quilting:

Leave a comment if you can figure out what it is that these quilts have in common and I will you send a little surprise if you are the first one to guess!

My husband and I spent much of our time on the weekend working on the gardens in the backyard. We planted a tree for Earth Day, a little late, but late is better than never. I took a peak at the rhubarb patch while we were outside and saw this:

Hmmm...Perhaps there would be enough to pick for dessert...

Don't you just love the colour of rhubarb???

I made one of our favourite desserts--rhubarb crisp!  There is even some leftover for tonight as well!

Chemo Quilt Blocks

The Elgin Piecemakers held their monthly meeting this past week. All but one member were able to attend the meeting and everyone brought their brown, rust and cream blocks for this month's chemo charity quilt.  I am always amazed at the variety of blocks everyone brings each month for this project!
Heather and I will be getting together soon to put our charity quilt top together with the sherbert and white blocks. I will post pictures when we have the top together.

I have been working on my "Stars for My Friends" quilt this week. I am piecing the last border...another step with lots of sewing and cutting and sewing...
My redbud tree is in full bloom right now. I love this tree, especially in the spring...

I am off to a quilt show today in St. Mary's, Ontario. There will be pictures later...

FRESH

I picked up this little quilt from the long arm quilter late this past week and put the binding on last night while watching TV. I started making these little liberated baskets from Gwen Marston's book, "Liberated Quiltmaking II" 18 months ago.

I brought them along to the Beaver Island Quilt Retreat last September and Gwen herself helped me to figure out how to put them together into this little wall hanging.

I finished off the flimsey at the retreat and found it and the backing fabric while cleaning up my sewing room recently (a job that is still not done!).

The addition of "U-Pick" was Gwen's idea. The free pieced letters were inspired by Tonya Ricucci's book "Word Play Quilts".

The quilting was done by Cathy at "Eagle's Wings Quilts".

My "Roll Roll Cotton Boll" quilt is still waiting patiently for its turn on the frame an another long arm quilter's house.

Have a good week!

A Few Odds and Ends (and a quilt show!)

Just because I have not posted much lately does not mean I have not been sewing. Today was the Shedden Quilt show and I put 5 quilts into the show. I have spent much of my sewing time in the last couple of weeks putting sleeves onto the quilts that were in the show. Hanging sleeves do not make for very interesting pictures or blogposts! Here are the 5 quilts that I had in the show:

This one is my version of Bonnie Hunter's "Blue Ridge Beauty"--I called my quilt "Feeling Blue".

"This Makes Me Dizzy"--my hexagon quilt.

My recently finished "Fractured Squares".

I gave this quilt to my in-laws--"Country Spin".

Me and my "Creamsicles by the Sea" quilt.

This was one of my favourite quilts in the show--it was made from 30's prints and was hand quilted. The colours are fresh and bright on the white background!

This one was made by a fellow member of the Elgin Piecemakers as a memory quilt. The blue fabrics are recycled jeans.

Christine and I got together on Wednesday last week and while I worked on my sleeves and my mystery quilt, Christine made this table topper flimsy from leftovers from a quilt she made for her son--a very nice use of her extra bits!

I picked up a small quilt from the long arm quilters this week and hope to get the binding on it tonight. Pictures to follow.

Happy sewing!

QNIC at Jacqui's House

QNIC or Quilting Night in Canada took place last night at Jacqui's house. She has an amazing sewing studio with a house on top of it (LOL) and 6 of us gathered to sew, eat and sew some more.

Deb worked on her "Stars for My Friends" mystery quilt.

Karen worked on a "Spinning 4 Patch" table topper.

Chris, just home from Florida, worked on her mystery quilt too.

Jacqui did some machine quilting.

Roxene worked on a blue and white Bonnie Hunter quilt.

I also worked on my mystery quilt and this, another mini from Kathy's workshop in mid March.  The bits of batik fabric are leftovers from my hexagon quilt. Kathy calls this pattern, "Fish Food".

Karen finished her table topper flimsy by the end of the night!  It looks great, Karen!

We enjoyed a wonderful supper of pizza, vegies and homemade strawberry pie.

Sorry there is no pic of the pie!  It disappeared before I could take a picture!

We hope to get together for another QNIC very soon.

Another Mini and a Pillowcase

I finished off a couple more little projects yesterday after making the Dresden Plate pillow in my previous post.

I had started a couple more mini quilts at Kathy's workshop a few weeks ago and managed to finish another one yesterday. I called this one "More of Lynda's Garbage".

I have a third mini started and hope to finish it off this week sometime. I will have lots of things to bring for show and tell at the next meeting of the London Friendship Quilters' Guild!

On Monday night, I did a trunk show for a church ladies' group. I also did a demo of how to make a pillowcase. Here is the one I made. This will be a gift for someone who has a green thumb.

I also finished off another 8 blocks of the March step of the "Stars for my Friends" mystery quilt. I have 8 more blocks to sew together and then I will add this border to the centre. (It is a medallion quilt.)  I keep taking pictures of each step of the mystery so that I can eventually show them here on my blog. For now, that is a no-no.
