I spent a little time each day this past week adding stitches to my Spring cross stitch picture. The rabbit is coming along nicely. Finn is here for his annual visit while my daughter is busy at work and he doesn't mind lying beside me as I stitch. He is used to doing that while my daughter works on her cross stitch when he is home with her.
My daughter's picture of the city of Ottawa is coming into focus as she adds more colours. The giant spider is a statue called "Maman" in from the the National Art Gallery. I am adding a picture of the actual statue below--I didn't take this picture..it is from the internet. The sac below the mother spider's body is filled with spider eggs.
Today, I attended the Vice President's day at the Oxford Guild. Everyone was making the same quilt with their own fabrics. I chose some bright turquoise, orange and green from my stash for my blocks. There will also be some black and white fabrics in this quilt. I finished all my blocks while at the sewing day and will work on the layout and the black and white parts at an upcoming quilt retreat. The colours are brighter than in the first photo.
I made one more comfort quilt block for the Elgin Piecemakers this week. The pattern, Prairie Queen, was given to us and we were to use blue, yellow and white to make our blocks.
I will link up with Kathy in the morning.
I love the colours in spring bunny. Glad Finn is settling in with you ok. I remember taking my children to the Tate modern in London and there being a giant spider. Maybe that’s why Faye is scared of spiders! Sarah quilting by the sea
ReplyDeleteSweet colours in the cross stitch bunny. I'm not sure about the spider statue; a bit creepy. Your daughter's cross stitch is coming along nicely. Those fabrics in your new quilt are bright and vivid. The turquoise is an excellent choice to add in the mix. Enjoy your stitching with Finn beside you.
ReplyDeleteWOW that spider is big. The bunny and your daughter's cross stitch is coming along very well. Love the colors of your blocks, This quilt will be a happy one, well done, Gail.
ReplyDeleteI always love when Finn gets fluffy, but I bet he will enjoy getting a trim. That spider statue gives me the willies. I have a deep seated dislike/fear of spiders. Your bunny stiching is progressing quickly as is your daughter's stitching. They both look so pretty. I like the teal/orange/green blocks. I look forward to seeing how you arrange them. Enjoy your stitching with your buddy by your side.
ReplyDeletewe have a big sculpture of the spider that you show at the Crystal Bridges Museum in NW Arkansas also - I wonder if there are two of them or if it travels - I saw it about a year ago there.
ReplyDeleteLovely cross stitching of both you and your daughter. I love the look of the turquoise and orange together. When I was in New Mexico last week, I did purchase some orange and a Southwestern turquoise. Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteLove the Ottawa stitching by your daughter. Lots going on with your.
ReplyDeleteYour guild blocks look nice, it will be fun to make this with others. That big spider looks a bit much for me, I'm afraid. Hello Finn, looking as cheeky as ever.
ReplyDeleteI admired again that herringbone turquoise against the grey quilt yu showed last post. I'm sure the owners love it. Meanwhile, I love these blocks, the pattern looks like one I could handle. Also enjoy seeing both of your cross stitching projects. I'M still working on my winter project...snowed under here again in the OTTAWA Valley.
ReplyDeleteYour spring cross stitch has such lovely colours! So nice to have Finn for a visit :)
