Quilt Show Photos

My friend, Karen, and I took our husbands out for dinner last night and then we all went to the London Friendship Quilters' Guild "Harvest of Quilts" show at Rowntree United Church in London.  It was a cold, wet night but the quilts were warm and cheerful!

Several members made the "Stars for my Friends" mystery and finished their quilts in time to hang them in the quilt show. Each one looked very different even though the same pattern was used for each one.

M added an extra row of frendship stars at the top to make it rectangular.

This one was made from batiks.

I like the extra star blocks in the corners!

I like the scrappy majestic mountains on this one.

This quilter likes to make smaller quilts and stopped at the snowball border before adding her own borders to frame it.

There was at least one more mystery quilt there made by my friend Jacqui but I did not get a picture of it.  :-(

Charlene made this charm quilt. It took a while to collect all of those fabrics.

This wool penny rug quilt was one of my favourites!

This quilt was displayed in the vendors' area. Do you recognize the blocks?  They are all the blocks that my husband and I saw on our Middlesex county barn quilt tour a couple of weeks ago.

The quilt show is still on today from 10-4 so you still have time to go over and see the quilts. The 9 vendors would be happy to have you visit them as well. I lightened my wallet a bit at the vendors' mall...

It is rainy and cold today. Clean up jobs to do this morning and then some sewing this afternoon...

Have a great weekend!

Wow!

Last night was our London Friendship Quilters' Guild meeting. The quilt show committee presented the prizes for the quilts in each of 7 categories plus the overall viewer's choice award. I won Honourable Mention in the "Other Quilted Item" category for my selvage stool "Sitting on the Edge"!  The Quilt Show committee made these beautiful banners for each person who won an award! Each award winner also received a certificate and a cheque. I was thrilled to win an award!  There were many spectacular quilts at the show.
Have a good weekend!

"Harvest of Quilts"

The biannual quilt show of the London Friendship Quilters' Guild is packed up and cleaned up now. Lots of people came to the show--family and friends of members as well as people who saw our advertising and dropped by to see the quilts. There were an abundance of items at the raffle table and many of our charity quilts were on display. The tea room served delicious treats. The quilts were beautiful and showed the hard work and artistic talents of the members of the guild.

This blue and white quilt had only two fabrics in it!

They say diamonds are a girl's best friend!

This one was made by Christine at a disappearing 9 patch workshop last Fall.
One of the guild members took an Indian Orange Peel workshop with Heather Stewart.  I am organizing this workshop for myself and 17 other quilters in November.
This quilter does beautiful applique work and had 4 applique quilts in the show.

This afternoon, I added the borders to my niece's Christmas quilt. I will finish her sister's quilt top before taking both of them to the machine quilter's to be quilted. This quilt looks a bit wild but it is made of material leftover from PJ's that I have made each year for my nieces' birthdays.
I hope to get the other quilt top done this week.

Quilt Show Season!

Today, I went to the Oxford Quilt guild show in Ingersol, Ontario. "Pieces of Magic"--lots of beautiful quilts. Several showed different colourways of the same pattern such as Friendship Braid. They had a FB class at the guild. It was interesting to see how different the quilts looked with the fabrics that each quilter picked. I only took a few pictures. They had two places where the quilts were displayed--Trinity United Church and the Ingersol Art Centre. I took pictures of my favourite quilts at each site:

Lots of tiny pieces in this sampler!!!  Maybe I will try one of these one day as a new challenge to myself!

These quilts were made at a workshop led by a guild member who had learned about the Gee's Bend quilts. I picked the one in the bottom picture as my favourite at the Art Centre.

Tonight was the first meeting of the season for the Elgin Piecemaker's Guild. Lots of good show and tell. I had my camera but did not take any pictures.

Tomorrow, I have to be up bright and early for the London Friendship Quilters' guild show. I think I am Over-Dosing on quilt shows this week...

Ready for the Quilt Show

I spent most of the afternoon making labels and sewing them on the last few quilts for the quilt show. Finally, they are all ready to go!

I have spent time over the last few days working on my nieces' flannel disappearing 9 patch quilts. Here is a sneak peak at one of the quilts, without all the blocks sew together yet:

The other one is still waiting for me to sew  the blocks back together after cutting the 9 patches into 4 pieces.

These are Christmas gifts --I am hoping to have them done early as I have some other gifts that I am working on as well.

I also finished off my Gee's Bend Challenge today as well.  We are getting together later this week to reveal our projects. I will post a picture after the big reveal.

LFQG "Harvest of Quilts"

A couple of late nights and all of my quilts were ready in time to take them to the quilt show. I had 10 quilts of various sizes at the show and had many positive comments from friends, family and fellow quilters. It's nice to know others appreciate seeing all of the sewing that I have been doing lately.

All of the quilts I put in the show have been posted on my blog before so I will not add any pictures of my own quilts. I do have several pictures of quilts that others made that were my favourites at the show.

Jacqui's Button Quilt:

Ruth's flower garden, hand pieced and hand quilted:

A close up:

The sheep on this quilt had curly quilting:

Cynthia's 5 little monkeys quilt (one monkey did not show):
I will add more pictures at a later date.

The quilt show was well attended and inspiring to quilters and non-quilters alike. I even won a prize (a pattern from babs n' jas designs) at the raffle table!

Fall Postcards

Tomorrow night is Guild night and we do a fabric post card exchange. I spent some time last night making some postcards so I would have one to put into the mailbox. All three are made from leftover scraps from my Fall Leaves Scrappy Sampler.

(Sorry this picture is a bit crooked!)

Tonight, I spent 3 hours at a quilting friend's house at a quilt sleeve party. We spent the evening sewing sleeves and binding on quilts that we will be putting into the Harvest of Quilts quilt show later this month.

The machine quilting lady will have my two quilt tops quilted by this weekend so I will have binding and sleeves to do on them as well. This is a very busy month for me -- I hope to have all of the quilts ready for the show a week ahead of time. I have some birthday gifts to make for my nieces before the end of the month as well. The sewing machine will not have much time to cool off this month!
