Colour Challenge Flimsy Done

I had a little less than a yard of the sashing and border fabric to set my colour challenge blocks and crossed my fingers that there would be enough to add 2.5" sashing and a 3.5" border.  I cut the pieces out that I needed to do this and had just a few scraps left.  Phew!  I'm happy that there was enough!  Now, I just have to figure out the backing--this will be pieced using fabric from my stash.   I will use a solid for the binding--not sure which colour I will use yet.

I worked on my cross stitch barn project a few times this week.  You will have to check last week's post to see what I have added this week.  It's getting there, slowly!

I started a new book this week. My daughter gave me this book for Christmas.  I love the story so far and can't wait to read more!  As you can see, I was reading in the gazebo on a sunny day.

While I was reading, I was being watched by a baby racoon in the evergreen tree at the back of our yard.  It spent quite a while watching my husband and I before finally climbing down and joining the rest of his family over the back fence.

Our weigela bushes are starting to bloom.

The purple clematis in our backyard is in full bloom now.  It must really like this particular spot in our yard.

We went for a walk in Port Stanley one evening this week and saw this unusual bird that we had never seen before.  I turned on my Merlin app and it identified it as a Ruddy Turnstone, a shore bird.

Here is Finn, checking on the weather conditions, before deciding to go outside to do his business.  He is not fond of peeing in the rain.

He is a big fan of our daughter's crochet projects.  The balls of yarn are very comfy.

I will link up with Kathy and Frederique as well as the rainbow scrap challenge folks.

  1. I'm pleased the fabric for your sashing yielded just enough to complete the project. The colourful blocks look great. I have never seen a racoon, doesn't that baby look cute. Is it unusual to spot them in suburbia?

  2. How cute is this fabric for the sashings and borders! I'm glad you got just the right amount. Love to see your blocks in this quilt top, they are lovely. Great progress on the cross-stitch project, I can see the sky and the grass growing. Wonderful flowers and wildlife, even if Finn doesn't belong in this category ;)) Thank you for sharing your happy place and linking up.

  3. Glad you had enough fabric for your sashing, its very cute. Your clematis looks amazing, I wish mine were more like that. I think we can't keep up with the watering in the hot weather we had last week. I don't get dogs, hate the rain but give them a puddle, or in Lolas case dirty ditch water, the sea, lake any form of water and they are in!

  4. I like the background print on that quilt. The flower are all so pretty and I love looking at raccoons. We have them all over but yet I rarely see them in my yard I mainly see that they are hit by cars a lot at night :(

  5. Hooray for having just enough sashing fabric, and it is really cute, too! That is a sweet quilt, Gail. I just recently finished Theo of Golden and enjoyed it, too. That is neat that you spotted the baby raccoon just watching you like that. Love those pretty weigela and clematis flowers in your yard! Enjoy your stitching today - I noticed you're working on the outside border this week.

  6. Oh what a fun quilt. I love the layout of the block . Woo Hoo on having enough sashing fabric. Aaw the raccoon is the cutest. You got a great photo of her. We have lots of raccoons in my area too. I used to have one that would come sit near me when I came outside in the evenings. It was almost like a pet. But I didn't let it get too close. Have a lovely evening, Gail.Hugs.

  8. The fabric for those colourful squares is so very sweet. Such a perfect choice, and lucky you just having enough. How fun having a racoon in your tree; isn't he a pretty fellow. The clematis is gorgeous, though at the rate it's growing more support might be needed. Sitting in the deck with your garden in full bloom, reading a good book does sound rather wonderful. Theo of Golden is on my 'to read' list. Enjoy your week, Gail.
