A Gift for Violet

My cousin and his wife had a baby girl, Violet, a couple of weeks ago. Tonight, I made her a quilted ABC book from a panel. I have made quite a few of these books over the years. If you happen to know Violet or her parents, please do not tell them about this gift. It will be delivered to her in mid September. Here is Violet's book:
Yesterday, my quilting friend and I got together for a couple of hours. I finished sewing the blocks together for the 4th strip of my "Fiddlesticks" quilt. I started this Jelly Roll quilt about a year ago and then never got back to it to finish it. I want to put in into the guild quilt show so I am working to complete the top so it can be machine quilted. There will be sashing between each row and 2 borders around the outside of the quilt.

More Table Runners...

I finished the binding on the table runner I showed you a couple of weeks ago. I think the red compliments the colours nicely!

I started another table runner for myself as well. I had purchased the charm pack for this one ages ago --I actually bought two of the same charm packs. I already made one from the first charm pack and gave it away to a friend. The second table runner will be for me. I pieced the center section today and need to add two borders to finish the top. Here's a picture of what I have done so far.

I am having some sewing time tomorrow afternoon with a friend so I may have more to post after that.

Yellow Brick Road is done!

Tonight, I finished sewing the binding on my yellow brick road quilt. I named it "Off my Beaten Path" because I don't usually make anything purple. The machine quilting lady in Strathroy, Ontario did a wonderful job on the quilting. I'm glad to have one more project off my UFO list. I may have to start a few new projects now!

Here are a few more close up pictures of the quilt. Enjoy!
The picture above shows some of the 30 different fabrics in this quilt. It all started when the fabric with the circles called my name. I spent a year looking for 29 more fat quarters that went with the circle fabric to make this quilt.

More Fabric Postcards

This morning, I used up some scraps from recent projects to make some postcards. I have a list of people to send these to--hopefully I made enough for everyone on the list! As you can see, I like birdhouses--I actually have a collection of birdhouses in my house. Most rooms have a birdhouse or two or three or more...

Earlier this week, while watching the final results episode of "So You Think You Can Dance", I machine quilted this table runner, started ages ago, but never finished... I will be donating this table runner to my quilt guild for the raffle table at our upcoming quilt show in October. The money from the raffle table goes towards supplies for our charity quilts. I went out this afternoon to the local fabric store to purchase fabric for the binding, and discovered to my dismay that they close at 4 pm on Saturdays in the Summer! I will have to go later this week to get the binding fabric.

Scrappy Sampler all sewn up...

After finishing the last blocks on the weekend, I spent some time sewing all of the blocks together. Since I don't have enough material left to make the pieced border that is on the BOM website where I got this quilt pattern, I have decided to make up my own pieced border using the material I have left from the blocks. I spent much of tonight cutting out pieces and sewing them into "twosies". I will work on more piecing on the border later this week.

Time to retire for the night...

The last 6 sampler blocks

The last block for my scrappy sampler quilt was posted on Claudia's quilts website on August 1st so I have spent some time this weekend making the blocks. Here they are...

In order to get this quilt done before the guild quilt show in October, I have decided to do a different type of border than the website shows in the picture of the completed quilt. I am in the process of sewing the blocks together--they are all laid out on the floor of my family room. I am excited to be closing in on the completion of another quilt for the quilt show. I would like to finish two more UFO's for the show (Fiddlesticks--a jelly roll quilt--the top is almost all sewn together, and a snowman wall hanging that is partially quilted--I am quilting it myself. ) I have some nautical fabric which I purchased last summer on a vacation in the Maritimes at Suttles and Seawinds in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. There are two stores there--one is filled with clothing and giftware and the other is a huge post and beam structure filled with quilts and beautiful fabrics. Here is a picture I took of inside the quilt store:

I bought several fat quarters of nautical fabric while I was there and found a pattern called "Longitude" in a FQ book which I thought would be perfect for my fabric. I had to spend a lot of time finding some more nautical fabric --two pieces --1 m and 2m lengths. I finally found what I needed at a quilt store in Goderich. This quilt will remind me of our family trip to the Maritimes and the fun that we had together. Here is the fabric.
I'll keep you posted on my progress...
