If you read my blog on a regular basis, you will know that I started hand quilting my pineapple log cabin quilt a while ago and then, I stopped. This week, I brought it upstairs from my sewing room and spent a few hours working on it. The gold block is quilted and I am almost finished quilting the orange block. Next up, the red block. Funny how projects don't get done if you don't work on them... I have another quilt that is begging to be hand quilted in the wings so I want to get this one done so I can work on it. Only 8/12 blocks to quilt after the orange one is done.
I also spent a few hours adding more stitches to my counted cross stitch this week. There are lots of colour changes in the bottom part of the picture. More sky stitches were added too. When all of the stitches are done, there are beads to add.
I made yet another zipper pouch this week. I can make these with my eyes closed, but I usually leave them open to prevent sewing and cutting injuries…
The Rainbow Scrap Challenge colour this month is "pastel colours". I don't have very many pastel colours in my stash so I will be making purple blocks this month. I started cutting squares and HST's for my blocks one day this week. I have not cut any of the background fabrics yet. I don't have a very large stash of purple so my friend Christine has given me some of her scraps to add some variety.
I noticed that one of my neighbours has a tulip tree in bloom in their yard. Such interesting flowers!
Our peony has several flowers now. If you look closely, you can see just a touch of pink on some of the petals.
Our Dianthus is in full bloom right now in the backyard garden.
Chives have such pretty flowers too.
The squirrels are having lots of fun at the park where my friends and I walk each morning. It is fun to see their antics as we walk by.
This spider was casting an interesting shadow on one of the chairs in our gazebo this week.
So fun to see your pretty scraps close up in the pineapple blocks, Gail! It looks like that bottom section of your crossstitch is a field of flowers - maybe sunflowers? That's a beautiful peony, too. Give Finn a good rub for me - he is so cute!
ReplyDeleteYour hand quilting looks great on your pineapple quilt! Is that a Festiva Maxima peony? I tried several times to get one of those to grow . .I never could manage it; but, I was always intrigued by that tiny flash of pink!
ReplyDeleteI love your Pineapples. Your stitches are beautiful, nice & even-spaced. The Xstitch is coming right along too. Finn, Finn, Finn, what're we going to do with you? Such a sweetie!
ReplyDeleteThe grey fabric really makes the colours pop on your pineapple quilt! The cross stitch is progressing, it’s going to make a nice picture. The flowers in your garden are lovely. We’ve had high wind and rain on the south coast and it’s pretty much wrecked my garden! Sarah quilting by the sea
ReplyDeleteI love to see details of your pineapple log cabin quilt, it's such a beautiful quilt! Having another one waiting in the quilting queue is a great motivation to finish this quilt ;) Your cross stitch is almost done, beads are going to be fun, among the flowers on the bottom I guess? Lovely purple fabrics, and wildlife/flowers too! Thank you for sharing and linking up!
ReplyDeleteYour stitches are beautiful on your pineapple quilt. Steady progress = a finish. I’ve heard of a tulip tree, thanks for the photos! Beautiful. I love Finn’s expression. Looks like he’s having the last laugh! 😄
ReplyDeleteI like how you are quilting those blocks. Your cross stitch is coming along nicely. Love to see the squirrel and Finn.
ReplyDeleteThere's oodles of pastel fabrics in my stash, Gail. Why don't you pop over and while you have a bo peep I'll put the kettle on. Though, perhaps I should bring my pastel pretties to you and we can sit in your garden and drink in the sunshine and all the pretty flowers. Oh by the way, my Pete says he absolutely needs one of those tulip trees. Perhaps I could jump the fence and pinch a cutting or two while I'm there?? Your neighbour won't mind....will they??!! How beautiful it is. As for those pineapple log cabins blocks of yours they are gorgeous! Love the quilting you've decided upon. It enhances those blocks perfectly. And then there's Finn. He always has a smile on his sweet face. He's such a happy pup.
ReplyDeleteSo true, projects don't get finished if you dont work on them! I'm certainly guilty of putting things aside then finding them later, or starting other things. Finn is so nice and friendly, I love seeing photos of him.
ReplyDeleteyour by-hand stitches are lovely...
ReplyDeleteI just love the texture of hand quilting. Looks fantastic!
