Hand Quilting and a Cross Stitch Barn

I added a lot of blue stitches to my cross stitch project earlier in the week, and then decided it was time to use some other colours.  As you can see below, I stitched most of the green border and got a good start on the barn.  Once the barn is done, I will go back to adding more blue in the sky.

I hand quilted the light green block on my pineapple log cabin quilt this week. I am working on the gold block next.  3/9 blocks are quilted now.  This is a slow process.  I already know which quilt I am going to hand quilt next so will keep working away on this one to get it done.

Angela announced that the Rainbow Scrap Challenge colour for May will be orange.  I have lots of orange scraps so will get started on my blocks this week.

A mother robin has taken up residence on top of the light fixture outside our back door.  This is a popular spot for a nest each year.

While on a walk at the park this week, I spotted this red squirrel and got a picture before it scurried away.

Another type of daffodil bloomed this week.  Some of the others are fading now.  It's nice to have flowers that bloom at different times so that there are always daffodils in bloom this time of year.

Finn has been very happy with the weather this week--lots of warm sunny days for being outside. Today, it  rained and is now dull and cool so we are staying inside.  Finn is happy as long as his people are nearby.

These flowers are in bloom at the park where we took Finn for a walk last night.  So pretty.

I will link up with Kathy and the Slow Sunday Stitchers as well as Frederique.

  1. I also get bored if I have to use the same colour thread for too long! It is moving along quickly though. Finn is so adorable. You were lucky to get such a great photo of the red squirrel! Really nice to see. Sarah quilting by the sea

  4. Your cross stitch is really growing. Seeing your handquilting makes me think that I just may hand quilt Royal Squares. It will take longer, but I just don't enjoy using my machine to quilt. Love the photos of Finn, the robin and the squirrel.

  6. It's fun to see the picture emerge on your cross-stitch! Is that the one that's stitched on perforated paper? How are you liking that, compared to fabric? Your quilting stitches look beautiful, too. We are seeing lots of robins around here, too. They like to play in the water when we water our lawn! Have a good week, Gail. 🩷

  7. Your farm stitch is looking amazing, Gail and your quilting on the gorgeous lime green pineapple block is exquisite. I have never seen a red squirrel before- so cute. We have gray squirrels here and occasionally we will see a flying squirrel. I wish you a lovely week. Hugs.

  10. Your photo of the red squirrel is great. The detail of its tail was of special interest to me. My inner squirrel, Gertie, wants a poster sized print of it to hang in the studio! Your pineapple log cabin hand quilting is beautiful!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects

  11. Your hand quilting looks nice. I haven't worked on my big stitch quilting for a while, must get it out again I think. Red squirrels are so pretty, but are endangered I think? Hello to Finn, looking as cute as ever.

  12. My Gracie is always happiest when she is with her people too. Lovely that you got out for an evening walk. I think that would be refreshing. I walk pretty early in the mornings. I love seeing all the flowers and trees budding. Spring has sprung here and looks to be starting with you as well. Happy stitching!
