Do I need an Intervention???

We celebrated Family Day at our house with a family dinner with extended family--My daughter was home from university and her grandparents, cousins, aunt and uncle were all here for the afternoon and dinner. As usual, I showed everyone my most recent quilting projects. Most oohed and ahhed appropriately, and some groaned!  After supper, my sister-in-law spied my roll of batting.

I purchase batting by the 40 yard roll--I can get it for a better price this way and I don't often run out of batting. Just before Christmas, I had to buy my second roll so that I could have her Christmas gift (a spinning 4 patch quilt) quilted. I sold 5 yards of batting to my friend and I have used some of it for 3 quilts which have recently been sent out for quilting.  All of this is to explain that my sister-in-law did not even see the whole roll of batting!  She grabbed the roll of batting and carried it upstairs where everyone else was sitting and chatting over a cup of tea or coffee. "Don't you think Gail needs an intervention?" she asked.

So, I ask you...Do I need an intervention?

Karen Griska at the Selvage Blog thinks I need an extra roll of batting so that I don't run out of batting in case there is a blizzard!

I spent a couple of evenings sewing this week. I trimmed the 96 units I made for my "Stars for My Friends" mystery quilt. Sorry, I can't show any pictures!  I also made 7 more baskets and now have 39 made.

I have 25 more baskets cut out and ready to sew.

  1. Not at all! I want to buy batting by the roll so 1) I don't run out and 2) I always have the same kind. Right now I have lots of bits of different kinds of batting that I'm trying to us up first.

  2. Nope, I buy it by the roll too. Today I bought the whole roll of wonder under.

  3. Yes you definitely need an intervention!! Just 1 roll? Come on now, you at least need a few rolls of different types, wool, cotton, etc. Oh and in black as well as white for those darker backgrounds. And don't forget to get a few different widths, don't want to waste that lovely width on a smaller quilt! ;)

  4. You're just being smart so you don't have to buy it when it's not on sale and you run out!! Personally, I have part of a roll left + one whole roll still in it's box! DH knows better than to make fun of it, since he appreciates quilts being made quickly into last minute gifts!!! That's my justification for all the UFOs I have waiting to be quilted too- a big time saver when I need to "whip up" a quilt in a hurry!! ;)

  5. No intervention necessary. I don't buy by the roll but do stock up. A local fabric store had packaged batting on sale recently and I was tempted by the sales clerk to buy a Queen size. I resisted and am glad, when I got home I found 4 queens sized batts under my sewing table!

  6. If you need an intervention, then so do I!! I haven't bought batting by the roll - YET - but now I definitely want to. And I agree with Susan M. just one roll would not be enough. I'd need at least one of white and one of black!1

  8. I've fallen behind on my blog reading. You've probably made quite the dent in that batting by now! I'm bringing my first roll home tomorrow and I'm excited! And I'll bet anyone who gives you a hard time doesn't complain when they curl up with one of your quilts.
