My husband and I both had our second vaccines this past week. Happy Dance! I'm looking forward to getting out more but am also feeling cautious about it at the same time. Baby steps...
I managed to get back into my sewing room this week and get some projects moving along. First up, I made two Blue blocks for my Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilt...one in turquoise and one in navy. Great way to revisit my scraps and use some of them up.
I used some orphan blocks to make these 8.5" square little quilts for a charity project with the Toronto Modern Guild. They each have an X of fuzzy velcro on the back and will be used on a wall painted with a grid with hook velcro X's in each square. The residents of the Long Term Care Facility can put them up on the wall and build a quilt. The program staff hope this will be a conversation starter for the residents. Several members of the guild are making a variety of blocks for this project and they are hoping to have enough blocks to change them out seasonally. I will likely make more blocks later for the fall and winter.
This orange and white star block is a comfort quilt block for the Elgin Piecemakers. We have decided to donate our quilts this year to the local women's shelter. Others are making the same white star blocks with different colours in the background.
I started making a gift quilt this week by cutting out some triangles and sewing lots of HST units. I will need well over 100 of these units before I can put the quilt together. The final layout has not been figured out yet but there are many possibilities. The colours are favourites of the recipients but they do not know that a quilt is being made for them. They do not read my blog.
Pretty flowers in my garden this week: Daylily
Potentilla bush
Balloon Flowers and Purple Cone Flowers
Finn had his haircut this past week. He is such a skinny little thing after a haircut but still cute. Here he is after the haircut and before!
I plan on doing some knitting tomorrow for slow Sunday stitching with Kathy and the gang.
Wow, you have done a lot in the week. Congratulations to you both, we are all looking forward to having more freedom and everyone vaccinated. Thanks for sharing the photos of the garden and the furry friends. Just make sure the fans in your house is closed when the wasps leave, a friend was having a shower in the morning they decided to leave their nest, they entered the vent on the roof and moved into her attic in the roof. She had to get professionals in to come and deal with the wasps then. Their nests are quite something. Have a fantastic week.
ReplyDeleteLots to look at on your blog today. Poir Finn, he does look so different with his haircut. What does he think of it, I wonder?
ReplyDeleteGlad you can get back in your sewing room again! I love the idea of the small blocks that can be changed around. We've had a wasp nest in the loft its an amazing feat of engineering on there part. Finn looks very fine after his haircut (naked but very handsome!)😁
ReplyDeleteFinn! Cute even when not so fluffy. I love all the various blocks, but my favorite is the white star. I'd love to see what the finished quilts look like.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt blocks (and flowers, too!!)
ReplyDeleteGood progress on your projects. Love the flowers! I cannot imagine living that close to a huge wasp nest!
ReplyDeleteYour HSt block is a beauty. All your blocks are beauties for that matter. Thanks for showing what's growing; I enjoy seeing it and comparing with mine in this neck of Ontario. That is quite the wasp's nest. Do be careful when in the vicinity.
ReplyDeleteOh my! Finn looks so pathetic! Hahaha! He'll be a furball again before we know it. The HST block is beautiful. I love the fabrics you're using. Cool idea for the senior housing. I'm sure they'll love being able to use their creativity.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of blocks for the seniors!
ReplyDeleteGreat projects you are working on. Finn looks so different! Love your flower pictures.
ReplyDeleteOh such a lovely post and love the little quilts for the long term care residents- such joy these cheerful small quilts will bring Such a clever idea to use velcro on the back . I am going to remember that. Eeek on the wasp nests. Hope you keep us informed this fall when you remove it. Have a great week and happy quilting.
