The Rainbow Scrap Challenge colour for June is Purple so I made two purple blocks for my project this week...one is purple (violet) and the other is magenta (red-violet). Some of these fabrics have been in my stash for a long time and others are more recent acquisitions.
Here are the 8 blocks I have made for this project so far. I will keep making one or two blocks a month until the end of the year and then put the top together. I really like building a quilt this way--just a little sewing and cutting each month and in a year, you have a quilt!
I have started quilting my yellow and gray Colour Blocks Quilt--I have been having some intermittent machine problems while working on this quilt so it is going a bit slower than I anticipated. Hopefully, the sewing machine co-operates and I can finish quilting it soon.
The Toronto Modern Guild has organized a round robin --I am in a group of 6 people and we are each making blocks or borders for each other's quilts. I made the sewing machine block and the spool border was made by the next person who mailed the borders to me. My group is made up of people who do not live in Toronto so we are just emailing pictures and the size of our quilts to the next person each month. I wonder what the next person will make for my quilt? I am still thinking about what I might do for round robin partner this month.
I managed to get quite a bit of work done on Love Birds this week. Thankfully, when I joined the circle at the bottom of the wreath, the stitches ended up right where they were supposed to be! There are some leaves in two colours left to do as well as the Bride bird. The end is in sight!
My husband and I went bike riding at a provincial park about an hour from where we live on Monday. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed a picnic lunch before riding all afternoon. The next time we go back to Rondeau Provincial Park, we are going to leave our bikes at home and go hiking on some of the trails instead.
My daughter's stitching on the butterfly embroidery is looking fantastic. The butterfly looks like it is going to fly right off the fabric!
I have a new plant in my garden which is currently in flower. The flowers are very tiny on this ice plant but up close, the colours are spectacular. Great colour inspiration for a future quilt, I think!
Finn is feeling fine again and is back to his usual helpful self this week. He will be going for a haircut soon! We can't see his eyes!
Your color blocks look so pretty all together, obviously playing nicely together! I think the ice flower is gorgeous too and look forward to your quilt inspired by it. Great job on the Xstitch matching up perfectly. I don't know about you but I always do a happy dance when that happens!! Ha!
ReplyDeleteThe blocks looks really nice. I like the rsc way of building a quilt too
ReplyDeleteLOVE how your blocks seem to sparkle! Congrats on getting the PURPLE ones done. Lovely addition to your collection!
ReplyDeleteI too had to use a wide range of "purple" some might not consider some of what I had as purple but to me they blended in. Love your daughter's butterfly stitching. I like that first quilt block pattern that you show also -
ReplyDeleteYour RSC blocks are starting to show a great design when they're all together! Love the purple ones. The sewing machine and thread blocks are so fun! That looks like a beautiful place to ride bikes or hike. I always enjoy seeing your slow stitching projects, and your daughter's too!
ReplyDeleteSeems like you had a productive week, with varied activities! I still need to finish at least one purple block!
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are really eye-catching and beautiful! What would we do without the RSC to guide us along with our scraps?!?
ReplyDeletePretty blocks! They look great together, you are making a beautiful collection Great progress on the embroidery departament. Good to know Finn is well. Have a great weekend, Gail.
ReplyDeleteI like the little cutting and sewing each month method of making a quilt from scraps too. I'll have to remember that block for the future. I have a bunch of four patches in the Parts Department and I have a bin of squares so it should make for an easy assembly. Lovely block!
ReplyDeleteI like your rsc blocks - those will make a great quilt!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, you have some fabulous fabrics in your Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks. They are all beautiful! That Round Robin for the Guild looks fun and your Love Birds is nearly finished....looking great. Yes, your daughters embroidered butterfly looks as if it will flutter off the hoop. 'That' flower is gorgeous and yes, I can see you dreaming up a quilt just around those fabulous colours. Fun to get out and bike and hike, and enjoy a picnic. The weather is looking perfect in your corner of the world. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYour pretty flower goes well with your daughter's beautiful butterfly. So glad your stitching matched up. Love Birds is so pretty. Glad Finn is feeling better.
ReplyDeleteThe butterfly wings look like the flower petals! So fun!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great photograph of your bike on the trail in the forest! That's a prize winner!
Love the round robin project... the spools were a great addition!
Your RSC blocks look great together! I'm so glad your cross stitch met up perfectly phew! Glad Finn has made a full recovery. I thought the same about the butterfly wings matching the flower!
ReplyDeleteLove your latest RSC purple block--such pretty fabrics in there.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter's embroidery is just lovely...
you have a lot of great projects going...hugs, Julierose
I love the block design you are making incorporating four patches. Bet Finn is happy to have those cones removed.
ReplyDeleteGreat projects, I love your purple blocks! Finn is his usual handsome self despite needing a haircut!
